Ingredients

  • 10 oz Tomato paste

  • 1/3 cup White vinegar

  • 1/3 cup Apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 cup Water

  • 2 Chipotle peppers from can of “Chipotles in Adobo Sauce”

  • 2 teaspoons Adobo sauce from can of “Chipotles in Adobo Sauce”

  • 2 cups Pitted sweet cherries (frozen or fresh)

  • 2 teaspoons Garlic powder

  • 2 teaspoons Onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt

  • 2 teaspoons Lime juice

  • 2 Tablespoons Soy sauce

  • 2 Tablespoons Brown sugar

  • 2 Tablespoons Molasses

  • 1 Tablespoon White sugar

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan. Whisk to thoroughly incorporate everything.
  • Bring mixture to a low simmer over medium-low heat. Stir frequently so the sugars don’t scorch.
  • After simmering a couple minutes, roughly mash up the cherries and chipotle peppers with a potato masher (optional).
  • Once the sauce reaches the desired consistency, carefully transfer to a blender. Puree in blender until completely smooth.
  • Transfer sauce to a mason jar or other sealable container. For storage, cool to room temperature and store in refrigerator.

Notes

  • If you want a spicier BBQ sauce, add extra chipotle peppers and/or Adobo sauce.
