The Most Extravagant Prepper Gear that We Can’t Afford Anyway
It should go without saying that nobody needs to sell me on the idea of preparedness. Heck, I’ve built an entire website and YouTube channel about it. And while I’ve certainly spent a small fortune over the years on various gear and supplies, some things simply go far beyond practicality and borders on preposterous. Let’s talk about some of the most expensive and extravagant prepper purchases that none of us will ever afford anyway.
Luxury Doomsday Bunkers
At the top of the list are luxury doomsday bunkers that cater to the wealthy elite seeking a lavish escape in the event of a catastrophe. These underground hideaways often come equipped with swimming pools, home theaters, and other opulent amenities, costing millions of dollars. While safety and preparedness are crucial, such extravagant bunkers seem more like status symbols than practical survival solutions.
Gold and Silver Coins
Investing in precious metals like gold and silver can be a sound strategy for diversifying one’s assets. However, some preppers go overboard, spending exorbitant amounts on rare and collectible coins. While having a small amount of precious metals in a survival kit can be useful for bartering in extreme situations, investing solely in high-priced coins may not be the most prudent financial decision.
Personal Submarines
Some wealthy preppers have purchased personal submarines, believing they offer a safe escape from various doomsday scenarios. While submarines can serve specific military and scientific purposes, the average person hardly needs one for their preparedness plans. These high-tech vessels come with staggering price tags and ongoing maintenance costs.
Bulletproof Clothing and Accessories
While personal safety is crucial, the average person doesn’t require a wardrobe made of bulletproof clothing and accessories. Some preppers spend thousands of dollars on bulletproof vests, jackets, and even backpacks, anticipating confrontations that are far less likely to occur than dehydration and starvation.
Armored Vehicles
Armored vehicles, designed to withstand attacks and protect their occupants, are a favorite among wealthy preppers. However, these heavily fortified vehicles come with staggering price tags that far exceed the practical needs of most individuals.
Aircraft
Speaking of high-cost vehicles, there’s nothing quite like a private plane or personal helicopter for getting out of Dodge! It seems safe to assume that if you’ve got your own bugout chopper, you’ve surely also got a sweet bugout location to which you’ll be escaping.
Luxury Survival Gadgets
The prepper market is flooded with ultra-cheap gadgets promising to be the ultimate tools for survival. But these days, there is no shortage of ultra-high-end luxury “survival crap” that is being marketed towards the rich and famous. Sure, if I had limitless money you can bet your butt that I’d have all manner of night-vision goggles, thermal imaging scopes, and satellite phones. But do I really need monogrammed, designer-brand cases and bags to carry it all in? And if you’re thinking to yourself that there’s no way someone would pay for such things no matter how rich they are, get ready to be very disappointed (yet again) in Kim Kardashian.
Private Islands
While having a secluded getaway may be appealing, private islands are a luxury that only a select few can afford. Spending millions on an island for a doomsday retreat is an extravagant choice that far exceeds the practical needs of most preppers. Not to mention that rising sea levels are more likely to wipe out your island paradise than zombies are to eat your brains on the mainland.
While prepping for emergencies is an entirely prudent endeavor, it’s essential to strike a balance between preparedness and practicality. Overindulgence in extravagant prepper gear can lead to unnecessary expenses and distract from more essential preparedness efforts. The key to effective prepping lies in rationality, adaptability, and focusing on practical gear that meets your needs without breaking the bank. On the other hand… if I was inconceivably wealthy, I’m sure there would be no limit to the ridiculous things I would buy in the name of “preparedness”.
